Promotor Profile:
Arizona Clegg, Promotor

“I have never forgotten the help my mentors provided; however, I’m repaying that debt with my frequent visits to the camps, encouraging farmworkers to follow the good health practices set before them.”

-Arizona Clegg

For two seasons Arizona Clegg has participated as a Promotor with the Salud Para Todos Program at Tri County Community Health Center in North Carolina.  He also serves on the Salud Para Todos Advisory Committee.  Although not a farmworker himself, he was born and raised in the rural community where the program is implemented.  Over the years he has made a difference in the lives of the African-American farmworkers who work in the area.

Arizona embraces his role as a Promotor enthusiastically and with devotion.  Beyond completing the expectations of the program, Arizona makes it his mission to help farmworkers overcome the challenges they face.  He is extremely resourceful and has collected hundreds of coats and health kits, which he has distributed throughout the camps.   His knowledge about mental health, substance abuse and green tobacco sickness is extensive, and he is always very prepared during his group sessions.

As his Program Coordinator describes,

“After Arizona’s first group session, I could see the farmworkers’ enthusiasm building….  [We all] appreciate the talent that Arizona expresses through his conversations with farmworkers, and the knowledge that he has about health care, prevention of disease, mental and emotional well-being.  The word about Arizona has spread so fast that migrant farmworkers are buzzing with excitement.  Arizona has refused to let anything block the path to good health for farmworkers.”
