Evaluating Your Program

"I have enjoyed writing the abstract, needs assessment and access barriers portions of other grants I have written, but have always struggled with the evaluation piece. I think the most valuable knowledge and skills that I gained came as a result of Migrant Health Promotion's expertise in this area and their patience with me!"

-Louise Wooley, Practice Manager for Women's Health, Blue Ridge Community Health Services, Hendersonville, NC

Strong evaluation can help improve services, demonstrate effectiveness, ensure continued funding and document success. Migrant Health Promotion works with interested organizations to design evaluation strategies that fit with available resources and meet needs. Our sample evaluation plans, objectives, forms, questionnaires, databases and other tools provide sound methodologies and resources for effective program evaluation.

Migrant Health Promotion's evaluation tools help answer the following questions:

  • How does the program help farmworkers or border communities?
  • Are people healthier as a result of the program?
  • Are more people using health care or other services as a result of the program?
  • Are health care or other services more effective and efficient as a result of the program?
  • How does the community feel about the program?
  • How does the program change the lives of the Promotores(as) or conditions in their communities?
  • How can the program be improved?

We can help you determine which questions are most important for your program, and we can help you design and implement an evaluation plan to collect and use relevant information. To view sample evaluation tools, go to Materials & Tools and download any of our program implementation guides. Please request assistance from the Capacity-Building Team for personalized help designing an evaluation plan.

For additional evaluation ideas and resources, see the "Community Health Worker Evaluation Tool Kit" on the Other Organizations page.
