Infórmate Program Coordinators
Migrant Health Promotion hires three Program Coordinators each summer for its peer health education programs with farmworker teens (Infórmate Teen Health Programs). Programs run at three sites in Michigan: Manchester (20 minutes from Ann Arbor), Walkerville (Oceana County), and Southwest Michigan (Berrien, Cass and Van Buren Counties). Migrant Health Promotion recruits one Program Coordinator for each site.
Each Program Coordinator assumes responsibility for the implementation of the Infórmate Program at one site. This involves setting and accomplishing program objectives and building relationships with growers, farmworkers, youth service providers and HIV and substance abuse agencies. The Program Coordinator also recruits, trains and supports four Teen Health Aides (or Promotores and Promotoras).
Preferred skills include:
- Enthusiasm for working with teens and with farmworkers
- Familiarity with HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and related issues
- Program implementation experience
- Ability to work well independently
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Commitment to empowerment and Popular Education
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English
Work takes place at each respective site. These are full-time, seasonal (temporary) positions. Program Coordinators will begin in mid-May and work until the end of October. Evening and some weekend hours are expected. Successful candidates must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and insurance, and a clean driving record.
